By the Numbers
  • SF State (6-3/3-2 CCAA) suffered its most lopsided loss and most goals allowed since 2013 when the Gators fell 5-0 at Humboldt State.
  • Dating back to 2007, UCSD (9-3/4-2 CCAA) holds a 4-6-4 series record. The only time the two teams met twice in one season was in 2017 when the teams tied 1-1 in the regular season and the Gators recorded a 1-0 upset in the CCAA Championships first round.
  • The Gators were outshot 17-8 and mustered just one shot on goal.

How They Scored

A rare miscue by goalkeeper Peter Swinkels proved costly. The goalkeeper's clearance just 1:21 into play was blocked by Jonathan Sabouri and the ball deflected back for a UCSD goal. In the 16th minute, Brett jones doubled the Tritons lead to 2-0.

The Gators got on the board in the 20th minute when Francisco Saucedo headed in the cross from Julio Gonzalez Ponce for his second goal of the season.

SF State scored three goals in five minutes in Friday's match but suffered nearly the same fate themselves in the second half on Sunday. In the 60th minute, Jones netted his second goal of the day to make it 3-1. Sabouri scored his second goal of the day in the 63rd minute and in the 65th minute, Alessandro Allen, who already had an assist, scored.
