SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State men's soccer team shocked the No. 9 Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes on Friday with a 2-1 come-from-behind overtime victory.
- The Gators (9-3/6-2 CCAA) have now won three straight.
- SF State is 7-2 in one-goal games this season.
- The CSUSB loss was the team's first in nearly a month, since September 26, and first home loss of the season. It was also the team's first home loss dating back to October 12, 2018.
- CSUSB outshot the Gators 16-8 but both teams registered four shots on goal.
- Jonathan Orozco's third goal of the season was also his second game-winner.
- The win avenges the Gators' CCAA Championships first-round 2-0 loss to the Coyotes from a year ago.
The teams played a scoreless 45 minutes, although the Coyotes came close with a shot off the crossbar. CSUSB took a 1-0 lead in the 71st minute when Pedro Arellano scored on Brandon Sangbarani's throw-in into the box. In the 80th minute, defender Kasper Tindbaek raced towards the midfield, where he intercepted a Coyotes pass. He played it from the right side into the box. The ball was deflected but Seiya Otsuka kept the ball from going out the endline and played it back to Ramiro Palencia for the goal. In overtime, Orozco won it for the Gators with his chip shot from the top of the box in the 93rd minute.
Peter Swinkels made three saves and allowed one goal. The Coyotes' Jacob Huber made two saves and allowed two in.
"This win was a great team effort. We went down 1-0 but we never stop playing our game. We kept pushing and got a hard-fought win!" – Jonathan Orozco
