SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco State volleyball team fell to the visiting Cal Poly Pomona Broncos, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-19) on Friday night to snap their three-match win streak.
- SF State (13-6/6-4 CCAA), who came into tonight eighth in the nation in hitting percentage, struggled offensively hitting a season-low .102.
- Pomona (5-13/3-8 CCAA) recorded nine total blocks, tied for the second-most by a Gator opponent this year.
- Jessica Haynie had a match-high 13 kills, while Bailey Johnson and Drew Morris each added six.
- Payton Jensen had 25 assists and eight digs, and Taylor Garcia led the way with 11 digs.
The Broncos came out to a 7-3 lead on a four-point run, and that lead was pushed to 10-4 before a service error regained the Gator serve. Pomona continued their strong offensive play to go up 12-5, and were hitting .462 with seven kills up to that point. Out of the break, Johnson recorded a booming kill for her first of the night. The Bronco lead was extended to nine before Morris got on the board off a dish from Jensen. Morris would go back-to-back that cut it to seven, 20-13. Facing set point, Johnson kept SF State alive with another booming kill that bounced off the Bronco backline, and Trinity Barr and Sophie Anderson followed with a block. The rally continued with Haynie's first swing of the contest and Pomona called a timeout up seven. Out of the break, Jazmine Parrish put it away with her second kill for the 25-17 win.
A Haynie kill to the back corner put the Gators on the board in the second, and the junior would add another to cut it to one, 5-4. Consecutive Barr kills made it a one-point game yet again, and Haynie leveled the score, 11-all, with her fifth of the evening. Haynie would nick the line to give SF State its first lead of the night and the Broncos called a timeout. A 7-1 run, featuring an ace by Anderson, put the hosts up 16-12 and the Broncos called another timeout. Leading 20-17, Haynie added another powerful kill, her eighth of the night, but back-to-back Bronco blocks cut it to two, 21-19. Consecutive kills by Daisy Duke and one by Ally Wilder regained the one-point lead for the Broncos. Another block and Gator miscue completed the comeback win, capped off with an 8-1 run, for Pomona as they took a 2-0 match lead.
Jade Gillespie's ace and Johnson's kill to the near sideline put the Gators up 3-1. Kaitlyn Tucker tied it at five-all with kill from the net, and the 5-0 run put the Broncos up 8-5. Another streak, this time of three straight, put Pomona up 11-6 and SF State called a timeout. Haynie cut it to six with another back corner point, and followed with an ace that made it 16-11, and Brenna Dougherty's ace cut it to four and force a Bronco timeout. The visitors continued their strong net play to go up 20-15, and a 4-2 run gave them match point. Kills by Barr and Haynie kept the Gators alive, however a service error sealed the sweep for the Broncos.
