SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State men's soccer team saw its five-match win streak snapped on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to Chico State.
- SF State drops to 5-2/2-1 CCAA while Chico State improves to 7-1/3-1 CCAA.
- The two shots on goal by the Gators were tied for the fewest of the season. They were also limited to two in their season-opening loss at Notre Dame de Namur.
The Gators took a quick lead in the sixth minute on Francisco Saucedo's goal. Jonathan Orozco played a ball across the midline and Seiya Otsuka played it forward to the middle of the box to Saucedo, who leapt and put it in.
Chico State tied it in the 24th minute off of a corner kick on the left side. The Gators cleared the ball high but the ball was played back in and Justin Bethke found Noah Ross in front of the goal for the tie.
The Wildcats went ahead in the 62nd minute on a scrum in front of the goal. Matt Hafizi connected with Bethke for what turned out to be the game-winner.
Miles Burditt had a shot saved in the 70th minute,
Adrian Medina missed to the left in the 71st minute, and
Feliciano Cardenas' shot in the 81st minute was blocked.
Gators goalkeeper Peter Swinkels made two saves, including a dive to his right and allowed two goals. Jose Paredes allowed a goal and made one save.
SF State heads out on the road for a two-match trip to Southern California to face Cal State San Marcos on Friday, October 11 and UC San Diego on Sunday, October 13.
