SAN FRANCISCO — A days after clinching a third-consecutive berth to the CCAA Tournament, the San Francisco State men's soccer team ran out a new-look lineup, although the Gators ultimately fell 3-0 to No. 3 Cal State LA on Thursday at Cox Stadium.
- SF State (9-6/6-5 CCAA) was limited to a season-low three shots, two on goal. Cal State LA (14-0-1/9-0-1 CCAA) fired 11, seven on frame.
- The Gators used 22 players, including a goalkeeper each half.
- Moheeb Ali, making his second appearance of the season, made his first college start. Niklas Schell made his first start since September 22.
- SF State has lost three consecutive matches for the first time since 2017. The Gators then won their next four matches that season en route to the team's first postseason appearance since 1978.
San Francisco State fended off the nationally-ranked Golden Eagles until the 43rd minute when Manuel Garcia rebounded his own shot and scored to make it 1-0. The Golden Eagles doubled the lead in the 67th minute when Cyrille Njomo bent a shot to the upper 90. A Cal State LA free kick from just outside the box in the 80th minute put the match out of reach.
Peter Swinkels allowed a goal and made three saves in the first half. Tab Heinz allowed one goal and made four saves. Erik Ornelas made his first appearance of the season and made one save and allowed a pair of goals in the second half. Alex Brems made a pair of saves to earn the shutout for the Golden Eagles.
SF State host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Novemer 9 at 11:30 a.m. Prior to the game, the Gators will honor the team's nine seniors: Miles Burditt, Gustav Fink, Ruben Gomez Jr., Richard Leon, Uzoma Onuoma, Jonathan Orozco, Brandon Sands, Francisco Saucedo, and Jose Torres.
