SB | Comeback Falls Short against Seawolves

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The San Francisco State softball team came up short on Sunday as they fell 9-6 to the Sonoma State Seawolves. Game two of the doubleheader was halted in the middle of the fifth due to darkness, with the Gators trailing 14-8.

How They Scored
  • Cameron Kirtlan homered to right to score Alee Balanon in the first.
  • With two down in the second, Kirtlan knocked a double to right-center that plated two as the Seawolves went up 4-0. She then came around on Lindsey Calcanyblair's base hit to left.
  • SF State got on the board in the third as Castro, who reached on a sharp single to left, was plated on Katie Rohrer's fielder's choice to second, making it 5-1.
  • Sonoma State went back up by five in the fourth on a throwing error by the catcher.
  • In the fifth Hildan hit an infield single to score Vallejos, who reached on a walk. Pinch hitter Sturm then knocked a bloop single to left-center, plating Rohrer. DeLeon entered as a pinch hitter and hit a deep single to right that scored Hildan and Jacques, bringing it to 6-5.
  • The Seawolves got two pack in the sixth on Courtney Jack's two-run home run to center, putting the visitors back up by three.
  • Balanon's solo shot to left-center in the seventh widened the lead to 9-5.
  • The Gators cut it to three on Sydney Jenkins' sacrifice fly to left that scored Jacques.

  • Emily Mitchell tossed 5.2 in the start and tied a season high with six strikeouts. Karla Soto threw 1.1 in relief, allowing one earned and striking out one.

Game two of the day was halted due to darkness and will be completed at a later date.
