SAN BERNARDINO, California - The San Francisco State softball team came back in game one and pulled ahead early in game two against No. 20 Cal State San Bernardino to sweep the Coyotes in the series opener. Game one was a 3-1 eight-inning victory while game two was 7-3.
- Andrea Hildan's single in the fourth extended her hitting streak to six straight.
- Brylynn Vallejos and Nina Revoir also extended their streaks and have now reached base in every contest this season.
- Katelyn Sturm's pinch-hit single in game one tied the contest in the seventh and his her third pinch hit this season as well has her third pinch hit RBI.
- Hayley Nunes had a pair of hits in both contests, her third multi-hit game of the season, and widens her hitting streak to five.
- The victory hands San Bernardino (7-2/4-2 CCAA) their first loss of the season and is the first doubleheader sweep of a ranked team since 2017 when they dropped No. 6 Chico State in two.
- It is the second win over a ranked team in just as many seasons after SF State (8-5/5-5 CCAA) edged the No. 18 UC San Diego Tritons 2-1 last year.
- The Gators, who lead the CCAA with a .345 batting average coming into today and rank in the 28th in the nation, hit .323 (20-62) on the day.
- Emily Mitchell and Karla Soto each threw complete games, allowing just four earned in 15 innings of work.
- The two wins are SF State's fifth straight.
GAME ONE
- The Coyotes took 1-0 lead in the fifth on Kelia Paragas' RBI single to left.
- In the seventh, Tianna Jacques singled up the middle and went to second on Katie Rohrer's base hit to right. Both advanced on Leuha DeLeon's groundout, bringing up pinch hitter Sturm. The freshman made it count as she singled up the middle as SF State was down to its last out to tie things up, 1-1.
- In the eighth, Nunes worked a leadoff walk and Michelle Castro followed with a two-out walk. Revoir then doubled to left to put the Gators up 3-1.
- Mitchell didn't allow a hit till the fourth and tossed all eight innings for her second consecutive complete game. The junior struck out nine and allowed just one earned on six hits.
GAME TWO
- With one down in the first, Hildan poked a single to left and Castro followed with a basest to right and went to second on an error by the right fielder, moving Hildan to third. Jacques walked to load the bases with two down and Rohrer worked a full-count walk for the first run of the game. Castro scored next on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
- Sydney Jenkins led off the second with a double to right-center, and Nunes' single to right scored her to widen the lead to 3-0. Vallejos rached on a fielder's choice and stole second, advancing to third on Hildan's base hit up the middle. Vallejos made it 4-0 with Castro reaching on a fielder's choice, and her and Hildan advancing to second and third on interference. Revoir continued the rally with a RBI single to left, and with two out Castro scored on a passed ball to cap off the four-run inning.
- The Coyotes got on the board in the fourth on Domininique Walker's sacrifice fly to right.
- Two more came across in the sixth for the hosts on Sydney Kreimann's two-run home run to center, making it 6-3.
- Jenkins' first collegiate home run added an insurance run in the seventh as the freshman made it 7-3 with a shot to left.
- Soto got her second start and seventh appearance of the season and tossed her 15th career complete game.
- SF State knocked Coyote starter Kendra O'Cull out in the second inning, tagging her for five hits and four runs.
SF State wraps up the series with the Coyotes with another doubleheader which starts at noon.
