SAN BERNARDINO, California - The San Francisco State softball team dropped its series finale against No. 20 Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, dropping game one 5-1 (8) before being edged game two 9-8.
- Brylynn Vallejos added three hits in game one for fourth contest of three-or-more hits. She has reached base in ever contest this season along with fellow freshman Nina Revoir.
- The Gators held San Bernardino to six hits in game one for the third-straight time.
- SF State didn't commit an error in game one for their second errorless contest in just as many games and fourth of the year.
GAME ONE
- The Gators got on the board in the first as Vallejos led off with a double to left and Andrea Hildan sacrificed her to second. Michelle Castro's single to right-center plated Vallejos for the first run of the game.
- The Coyotes tied it up quickly on Dominique Walker's RBI single to left to score Morgan Ratliff.
- San Bernardino recorded their first win of the series as Diana Gomez hit a grand slam to right for the walkout win.
- Emily Mitchell once again went the distance, allowing just six hits and striking out a season-high seven for her second seven-plus-inning performance in just as many days.
GAME TWO
- The hosts went up 1-0 in the first as Ratliff led off with a double and Gomez plated her with a base hit to right.
- Ratliff's solo shot to center widened the lead in the third, and the Coyotes went up 3-0 with on Walker's home run to center.
- SF State battled back in the sixth with Vallejos reaching on a single with two down and Hildan extending the inning on an error. Castro scored Vallejos on a double, and Revoir worked a 3-1 walk. Tianna Jacques singled to left that scored Castro and tie it up 3-3. Katie Rohrer put the team ahead with her first home run of the season with a three-run shot to left for the late 6-3 advantage.
- The hosts battled back and Lopez led off with a home run to make it a two-run game and Ratliff followed with a shot to center of her own to make it 6-5. Three batters later, Walker singled to left to plate Gomez and tie things up, 6-6.
- Vallejos led off reaching on an error and Hiland beat out a bunt single in the seventh. Castro also reached on an error to score Vallejos and make it a 7-6 lead and pinch-hitter Celeste Adriano grounded out to third, which plated Hildan.
- As they had done all day, San Bernardino regained the momentum as Morgan Parsons scored on a throwing error and Sydney Kreimann reached on a fielding error to score Ratliff for the winning run.
- Karla Soto got the start, throwing 2.2 with a K before being replaced by Mitchell, who threw four innings with three strikeouts.
SF State returns home this Wednesday, March 6 to host Sonoma State. Live stats will be provided.
