SAN MARCOS, Calif. — San Francisco State is off to its best start in 15 years, taking both games of Friday's series-opening doubleheader, 4-3 and 4-2, over Cal State San Marcos.
With Friday's victories, the Gators improved to 7-0-1 and 5-0 in CCAA play. Prior to this season, the program's best start dating back to 2005 was in 2011 when the team got out of the gate 5-1.
	
	- The first six runs of the day were scored with two outs. In game one, the only run that didn't come with two outs was the Gators' go-ahead run in the eighth and that came as a result of an error. The Gators scored their final two runs in game two with two outs as well.
- Collin Gabel went 2-for-3 in game two to bring his team-leading average to .600.
- Shaq Robinson went 2-for-4 with a sac fly. He drove in one and scored a run.
- Riley Cleary went 3-for-8 with a pair of RBIs and a run.
- Brady Dorn went 2-for-8 with a run, an RBI, a walk, and a stolen base.
- SF State pitchers only issued one walk on Friday.
- SF State's batting team average dipped but at .301 still remains over .300.
- Game two was the first game this season that the Gators did not register any extra base hits.
- The Gators have now made an error in every game but the season opener.
- For the Cougars, Cabot Van Til went 4-for-7 with a run, an RBI, and a walk. Andrew Cowell went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
GAME ONE
	- With two outs, Cal State San Marcos strung together three consecutive singles to take a 1-0 lead in the second.
- The Cougars doubled their lead in the fourth when a two-out error allowed a run to score.
- After a couple of groundouts, Antone Self drew a four-pitch walk. Jason Hare doubled him home to get the Gators on the board in the fifth.
- In the sixth, Robinson singled home Harley Lopez, who led off the inning off with a single, to tie the game at 2-2.
- CSUSM regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Jeff Piver got a flyout and a strikeout looking. However, Cowell laid down a bunt single, then Piver hit a batter and surrendered a single up the middle to Van Til.
- Jason Hare led off the seventh and was hit by the eighth pitch of the plate appearance. Jackson Kritsch moved him over with a sac bunt, then Harley Lopez walked. The Cougars dipped further into the bullpen, and Cleary's single through the left side tied it 3-3.
- Robinson and Self singled in the eighth, then Hare reached on a fielder's choice but the throwing error allowed Robinson to score the go-ahead run.
	- Piver threw 96 pitches in five and two thirds innings in a no decision. He departed in the sixth after the Cougars regained the lead, 3-2. Two runs were earned. He struck out a pair and allowed eight hits.
- Sebastian Selway worked one scoreless inning of relief.
- Joshua Romero (3-0) picked up his third win of the season. He allowed just one hit in two and a third innings.
- Cougars starter Taylor Greene went five and two thirds innings and allowed a pair of runs. Troy Lamparello (0-1) took the loss.
GAME TWO
	- A sacrifice fly and a two-out double put the Cougars up 2-0 in the first.
- Brady Dorn led off the fourth with a walk, Cleary singled, and both advanced on a wild pitch. Robinson shaved off a run with a sac fly and Gabel singled down the right field line to even the game at 2-2.
- Jonah Gonzales began the fifth with a four-pitch walk, then swiped second. The next two batters recorded outs but Cleary won an eight-pitch at-bat with an RBI single up the middle to put the Gators up 3-2.
- The Gators got an insurance run in the seventh. Gonzales was hit by a pitch, then stole second and advanced to third on an errant throw. He scored on a Dorn single.
	- Jack Higgins (2-0) allowed both runs in game two. He allowed six hits in five innings for his second win of the season.
- Dylan Madole (S, 2) scattered three hits. for the two-inning save.
- Cougars starter Garrett Apker (1-1) allowed three runs on five hits over five innings.
