POMONA, Calif. — The No. 20-ranked San Francisco State baseball team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, 4-3, at Cal Poly Pomona.
The Gators fall to 12-1-1 overall and 10-1 in CCAA play but remain in first place while the Broncos improve to 12-14 overall and 10-10 in conference play, which is tied for sixth place.
- Half of the Gators' 14 games have now been decided by one run.
- Brady Dorn went 3-for-4 to raise his batting average to .315. As a team, the Gators are also batting .315 with eight players posting a .300 or better a
- Sunday was SF State's fourth multi-homer game of the season.
- The Gators outhit the Broncos 9-8 but a passed ball in the sixth proved costly and set up a three-run inning for CPP.
- The Broncos manufactured a run to take an early lead. Brenna McKenzie singled, moved up on a sacrifice, advanced to third on a flyout, and scored on Patrick Flynn's single to left field.
- The Gators tied it in the fourth on Shaq Robinson's double that scored Jonah Gonzales, who slid in to beat the throw home.
- The difference came in the sixth inning. Flynn struck out but reached on a passed ball. The Broncos used three base hits and a sacrifice to take a 4-1 lead.
- Trevor Greenley led off the eighth with a solo shot to to left that cut the lead to 4-2. Hare followed with a singled, which chased starter Austin Isenhart. Mitch Hart retired the first two batters he faced before Dorn singled and Cleary walked to load the bases. However, Hart got a flyball to leave the bases loaded.
- In the ninth, Jack Harris cut the lead to one with his first homer of the year, a solo shot to right. Hare reached on a two-out single but Hart got a popout to end it.
- SF State elected to go with reliever Sebastian Selway to start the game. He went two innings and gave up one run on three hits with a pair of strikeouts.
- Jordyn Eglite (1-1) was charged with the loss. He worked five and a third innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on five hits. He struck out a career-high seven batters, including the side in the fourth.
- Daniel Jimenez retired both batters that he faced in the eighth, including a strikeout looking.
- Isenhart (3-3) picked up the win for the Broncos. He struck out eight over seven innings of work. Hart earned the two-inning save.
