HAYWARD, Calif. — The No. 17 San Francisco State baseball team settled for a series split with Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Baseball Field. The Gators took game one 8-6 but dropped the second game, 5-4 in seven innings.
- In game two, four of the seven runs were scored by sacrifice flies. Three of the four runs allowed by the Gators were unearned.
- For the series, SF State posted a 2.91 ERA. On the season, the Gators have posted a 3.90 ERA up to this point.
- Jack Harris hit .429 for the series, which brought his batting average up to .286.
- Six Gators are hitting .300 or better on the season.
- The Gators turned five double plays in the series.
GAME ONE
- Angel Estrada hit a one-out triple to dead center field. Jack Harris came in on the ball, then had to chase it down at the base of the fence. Estrada scored on Kai Gomez's base hit through the right side.
- The Gators answered with a four-run bottom half of the third. Harris and Hare were both hit by pitches and Antone Self loaded the bases with a bunt single. Jonah Gonzales was hit to tie the game and the Gators took the lead on a Lopez groundout. Brady Dorn hit a grounder to second that took a hop and resulted in an error and two runs scored.
- SF State extended its lead to 6-1 with two more runs in the fourth. Jack Harris led off with a single, moved up on a groundout, and scored on Self's single to center field. Gonzales walked and Lopez singled to load the bases, then Self scored on a wild pitch.
- Dominguez Hills scored twice in the sixth thanks to a wild pitch and an error but Hare caught Decatrel trying to steal second to end the inning.
- SF State got a run back in the sixth on a Lopez sac fly.
- Jose Jimenez cut the lead to 7-5 in the seventh with a two-run single back up the middle.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Robinson reached on an error and Jack Harris doubled him home before being thrown out at third to end the inning.
- The Toros cut the lead back to two in the eighth with an Angel Estrada sac fly.
- Jordyn Eglite (2-1) struck out four in six innings of work en route to the win. He allowed three runs, two earned.
- Daniel Jimenez entered in the seventh but allowed two runs and recorded just one out.
- Dylan Madole allowed a run over one and two third innings.
- Joshua Romero threw a perfect ninth and got a strikeout to end it for his fourth save of the season.
- Jesse Villalobos (1-1) went six innings in the start for the Toros and took the loss. Spencer Hereford allowed one unearned run in two innings of work.
GAME TWO
- The Toros took the early lead in the second inning. Trevor Greenley went into a slide in right field and the ball skipped past, which allowed Jeremy Ciolek to reach third. He then scored on a Domenic Colachhio sac fly.
- Dorn tied it in the bottom of the third with a sac fly and Harris gave the Gators the lead with a hit into left field.
- In the fourth, the Toros tied it on a homer to center. A potential double play ball to short resulted in an errant throw that put runners at second and third and Kaelan Crisosto drove in the go-ahead run with a sac fly to right.
- The Gators got a run back in the bottom of the fourth and tied it 3-3 on a Lopez sac fly to right.
- The Toros took the lead for good in the seventh. Pinch hitter Eduardo Frayre-Cerda reached on a two-base error. Justin Morris pinch ran, moved up on a groundout, and scored on Pierson Loska's two-out single through the left side. The Gators got the leadoff runner on in the seventh when Gonzales was hit by a pitch but he was caught stolen second. Up until that point, the Gators were 5-of-5 on stolen bases in the series. Lopez hit a ball to right but it was caught at the wall and Dorn flew out to right to end it.
- Riley Cleary allowed three runs, only one earned, over five innings of work.
- Caden Childress struck out the only batter he faced on four pitches.
- Ryan Nabas pitched one and a third innings of work but was charged with the loss.
- Joshua Romero allowed an inherited run to score in the seventh but recorded an out to lower his ERA to 0.96.
- Kodi Koorndyk went two innings for the Toros and was lifted in the top of the third with two on and a 1-0 lead. Ian Codina (2-2) allowed a sac fly and an RBI single to Harris before getting out of the third. He went four innings and picked up the win. Connor Dreyer pitched a perfect seventh for his sixth save.
