TURLOCK, Calif. — A day after exploding for 10 runs, the San Francisco State baseball team was shut out for the first time this season in a 10-0 loss at Stanislaus State.
The loss proved costly, as the Warriors (28-19/24-17 CCAA) move up into third and the Gators (22-15-1/20-15 CCAA) slip into fourth place in the CCAA standings.
- The Gators suffered their first shutout of the season. It was the program's first shutout in 73 games, dating back to March 5, 2018.
- SF State entered April at 16-5-1 but lost three of the next four series and went just 6-10 in April.
- Three more errors brought the Gators' season total to 75. The Gators defense is averaging just under two errors per game.
- The Gators are averaging 5.4 runs per game this season. However, they have scored just 37 runs in their last 10 games (3.7 rpg).
- After stranding a pair with one out in the first, the Gators dug themselves a hole early. A pair of errors on the same play resulted in an unearned run and a Warriors lead in the first inning.
- The Warriors hung a crooked number in the second and grew the lead to 6-0.
- The Warriors added two more runs in the sixth and two more in the eighth.
- The Gators' first hit out of the infield came in the ninth, a Trevor Greenly single back up the middle. Ethan Lageson's single to left loaded the bases and chased starter Kevin Hahn but Chris Smutny hit into a game-ending double play.
- Nate Jenkins made the start for the Gators. He lasted just an inning and a third but only six of the runs allowed were earned.
- Sebastian Selway pitched two and two thirds. Aside from an inherited runner scoring, he allowed just two hits and issued a pair of walks.
- Daniel Jimenez and Dylan Madole each allowed a pair of runs.
- Kevin Hahn threw 114 pitches and went eight and two thirds. He allowed just five hits and struck out six. Brandon Scott got a double-play ball on his second pitch to end the game.
The Gators return home this week for makeup games with Chico State and Sonoma State. The Gators and Wildcats meet on Friday, May 3. On Saturday, May 4 the Gators will complete a halted game with the Seawolves before beginning another crucial CCAA doubleheader.
