SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco State Baseball is headed back to the postseason. After punching its ticket on the final day of the season in 2018, the Gators punched it on the penultimate day of the season this year.
The Gators took the series with a resounding 12-4 victory in game one of Friday's doubleheader before dropping game two 3-2. With the game one victory, SF State earned the season victory over the Wildcats. The games, originally scheduled for late February, were rescheduled due to inclement weather that saw the Gators play 27 games away from home (28 if you also include the Febraury 17 postponed game versus Sonoma State).

GAME ONE
	- The Gators posted a four-run first and never looked back. Antone Self's sacrifice fly put the Gators on the board and with two outs, Jonah Gonzales drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Riley Cleary was safe at second on the play and he Gonzales each took an extra base thanks to an errant throw. Jason Hare capped off the rally by taking a 2-0 pitch down the left field line that plated Gonzales.
- Alex DeVito's homer in the second cut the lead to 4-1.
- The Gators put two more on the board in the fourth. With the bases loaded, Jackson Kritsch was hit in the foot. Two batters later, Riley Cleary drew a two-out, bases-loaded walk to make it 6-1.
- Chico State got the runs back in the fifth on JT Navarro's RBI single and Navarro later scored on a wild pitch.
- Shaq Robinson, Chris Smutny, and Jack Harris pushed the lead back to four with consecutive two-out singles in the bottom of the fifth.
- Another four-run inning put the game out of reach in the sixth. Brady Dorn led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Cleary, who reached on a walk, scored on a Hare single, and Jack Harris drove in two more with a double to left center.
- Bryce Beauchamp's two-out single in the eighth cut the lead to 11-4 but a bases-loaded error in the bottom half of the inning got the run right back.

	- Sebastian Selway had his longest outing of the season in a starting role. The righty struck out a pair and scattered a run on four hits in three and two thirds. He got two quick outs in the fourth but put runners on the corners.
- Jeff Piver (3-1), who hadn't pitched since March 29, was summoned from the bullpen and got a fly ball to get out of it. Piver pitched three more innings and struck out four. He also picked up the win although he did allow a pair of runs.
- Nate Jenkins allowed a run over the final two innings.
- Grant Larson (6-4) took the loss. The Wildcats starter surrendered six runs and walked five in four innings. Sid Lacy was charged with five runs in just an inning and a third and Ellis Stevens gave up the unearned run in the eighth.
GAME TWO
	- A Gators throwing error proved costly when Alex DeVito doubled home a pair in the first.
- SF State never fully recovered from the early miscue. Trevor Greenley led off the fifth with a triple into left center that left fielder Cody Wessler nearly tracked down. Greenley left the game but walked off on his own. Pinch runner Jonah Gonzales scored on another Hare RBI single. The rally was cut short when Hare was called for interference at second base on a Jack Harris groundout that resulted in a double play and Kritsch struck out swinging.
- The Wildcats added the run back in the sixth with Dustin Miller's two-out sac fly off of reliver Hudson Hartley.
- SF State manufactured a run in the eighth. The Gators caught a break when Kritsch reached on a throwing error and went to second. He advanced on a fly out, then scored on Trevor Rogers' single.
- After getting out of a jam with runners at the corners in the top of the ninth, the Gators went down in order in the bottom of the ninth.
	- Jordyn Eglite (4-4) struck out four and allowed just one earned run but took the hard-luck loss.
- Hartley, who made his first appearance since February 24, struck out one and allowed a run on two hits in an inning of work.
- Andrew Lopez (5-2) was very good for the Wildcats. He allowed just one earned run in eight innings. Alex Kent pitched a perfect ninth for his sixth save.
On Saturday, May 4 the Gators will complete the February 17 halted game with the Seawolves before finishing the series with a nine-inning/seven-inning doubleheader. That is also Senior Day and the Gators will honor their 10 seniors – Brady Dorn, Collin Gabel, Trevor Greenley, Ethan Lageson, Harely Lopez, David Mansell, Jeff Piver, Shaq Robinson, Antone Self, and Chris Smutny – before the noon game.
