By The Numbers
  • SF State is now 7-2 on the year as they begin CCAA action on Friday, which is their best start to the season since 2012 when they also began the year going 7-2.
  • The Gators are a perfect 7-0 since 2014 against Holy Names (1-5) and every victory has been a sweep.
  • The victory gives the Gators four sweeps on the year.
  • SF State held the Hawks to a .012 hitting percentage, the lowest in 27 matches dating back to last season. The 16 kills by Holy Names are the fewest by an opponent since 2014 when the Hawks only got 14 kills in the season opener.
  • Jessica Haynie and Trinity Barr each led the way with eight kills. Taylor Garcia had 18 digs and a season-high four aces.
  • Payton Jensen had 19 assists and Cassandra Fong added ten.

Set One

Back-to-back kills by Barr to the back corner tied it up, 2-2. A 5-0 run in which featured a Jade Gillespie ace and consecutive Johnson swings off the block put the Gators up 10-4 and Holy Names called a timeout. Gillespie recorded another ace out of the break and the run was pushed to nine straight. Two straight Barr kills put SF State up 19-8 as they closed in on the early lead. Barr gave the Gators set point with her game-high fifth kill of the contest and Garcia ended it with her first ace of the evening.

Set Two

The Gators came out to a 3-1 lead after another ace by Garcia but the Hawks kept within striking distance. Only leading 11-10, SF State built a comfortable lead behind more Barr kills and a block by Barr and Bailey Johnson. Once again the visitors would make it a one-point game following a Sierra Allen block, but Holy Names miscues put the Purple and Gold back up by three, 16-13. Jensen had a nice kill from the left side at the net and Johnson and Haynie followed with a block on the other side as SF State now lead by five. Haynie went back-to-back to the scoreboard as SF State was a point away from a 2-0 match lead. Marlena Billings capped off the set-two victory with a strong swing that bounced off the Hawk blocker and out of play.

Set Three

Billings gave the hosts a 5-4 leda with her third kill of the evening and Garcia added another ace. Sophie Anderson capped off the 5-0 run as SF State now lead 9-4.  The lead was pushed to eight on kills by Anderson and Haynie, and that widened to double digits, 19-8, following Johnson's ace. Billings made it 23-11 with a cross-court kill, and Anderson dropped one in off an assist from Fong to make it 24-12. An attack error by the Hawks sealed the sweep for SF State.
