SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State women's soccer team dropped its final non-conference match before heading into conference play, a 3-1 loss to Azusa Pacific, on Saturday at Cox Stadium.
The Gators (2-2-1) took an early lead but the Cougars (3-1-1) scored three unanswered goals for the road win. An evenly-matched contest, the Gators attempted ten shots compared to nine by Azusa Pacific. Both teams placed five shots on goal. The Cougars held a 4-2 corner kick advantage.
The Gators had a pair of shots sail high in the first seven minutes of action, and Kylie Schneider's shot in the 16th minute was saved. In the 22nd minute, Katelyn Patterson, coming off CCAA Player of the Week honors, scored to give SF State the early lead. Kylie Schneider played a ball near midfield on the Gators' half of the field, then sprinted down the entire half of the field and into the box. She drew two defenders and split them with a pass to Katelyn Patterson, who was trailing at the top of the box. Patterson finished to the far post for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
A defensive miscue ten minutes later proved costly for the Gators. SF State goalkeeper
Sommer Harrington failed to clear a ball and Randi Macadangdang was there to fire it right back at the goal past Harrington.
The two teams went into the half knotted 1-1 but the Cougars took advantage of more SF State mistakes. The Cougars gained possession on a Gators throw-in and took the lead. Azusa Pacific played the ball back into its half. The Gators intercepted the ball but played a ball into the midfield and the only player there was Azusa Pacific's Emily Koflanovich. The senior played the ball over to Jordan Hill, who chipped it into the upper left from the right side of the box.
Azusa Pacific's third goal came in the 71st minute when Amy Bishop played a ball to Macadangdang, who turned and fired.
Harrington made two saves. Azusa Pacific's Jennifer Kovisto made four saves.
