WBB | Gators Suffer Lopsided Decision in Seaside

SEASIDE, Calif. — The San Francisco State women's basketball team dropped its fifth consecutive loss on Saturday afternoon in a 70-41 loss at Cal State Monterey Bay.

By the Numbers

  • The Gators (1-14/1-11 CCAA) struggled offensively in the first half and scored just 13 points on 6-of-28 (21.4 percent) shooting.
  • Meanwhile, the Otters (4-10/4-8 CCAA) started the game hot and jumped out to an early lead thanks to 61.1 percent (11-of-18) shooting.
  • Muirae Gomez scored a team-high 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting.
  • Madison Corder had a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
  • Four Otters reached double digits, led by Lizzy Benton's game-high 14 points. Sylvia Vartazarian had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Camille Parker led all players with 14 rebounds.
  • The Gators' health struggles continued. Giselle Mahinay, who started the SF State's last game, was a scratch due to the flu.
  • Jarexcy Privado and Gabby Jajeh made their season debuts on Saturday. Privado had a steal in 11 minutes while Jajeh grabbed one rebound in eight minutes of play.

First Quarter


Out of a media timeout at the eight-minute mark, SF State trailed by two thanks to a Jasmin Asher layup. However, the Otters went on a six-point run over the next two minutes until Asher scored again. The Gators trailed 23-8 after at the end of the period.

Second Quarter
The Otters held the Gators scoreless for nearly five minutes and used an 8-0 run to take a 23-point lead. The Gators trailed 38-13 at the half.

Third Quarter

SF State went a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line in the third quarter and outscored the Otters 18-12 in the period but the Otters still led comfortably.

CSUMB outscored SF State 20-10 in the final 10 minutes. Madison Corder fouled out with under two minutes to play in the game.
