SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State women's basketball team fell 66-47 to first-place UC San Diego on Thursday evening inside the Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza.
- The Gators (1-15/1-12 CCAA) dropped what is the final regular-season matchup with UCSD as the Tritons move to the Big West in NCAA Division I next season.
- Muirae Gomez led SF State with 16 points before fouling out of the contest. Taimane Lesa-Hardee added 10 points in the loss.
- UCSD was led by Julia Macabuhay's game-high 22 points. Sydney Brown added 19 points.
- SF State limited its turnovers to 14, the fourth-lowest mark of the season.
Gomez got the scoring started with a jumper a minute into the game. The Tritons took a five-point lead but the Gators evened the score but never regained the lead. Stephanie Moore's bucket with under a minute left in the period put UCSD up 16-14 at the quarter.
Gomez mirrored the start of the first quarter with another jumper 1:10 into play and a
Giselle Mahinay steal led to a Lesa-Hardee jumper that put the Gators in front 18-16. Gomez made another bucket, then drew a foul and sank both tries to make it a six-point Gators advantage. A pair of UCSD three-pointers cut the lead to two and Macabuhay tied the game at 24-24 at the four-minute mark. Moore laid one in to give UCSD the lead and another Macabuhay bucket inside a minute left put the Tritons up four at the half.
Lesa-Hardee pulled the Gators to within two but a six-point Tritons run was enough of an edge to create space. The Gators pulled to within one possession but saw the deficit grow to 13 by the end of the quarter.
SF State mounted a comeback that saw the lead trimmed to eight but the lead ballooned to 20 late and the Gators never got closer than 18.
