SAN FRANCISCO — Madison Corder's career-high 22 point effort was not enough as the San Francisco State women's basketball team fell 81-52 to Cal State San Marcos.
- The Gators (1-16/1-13 CCAA) fell behind 28-4 in the first quarter, including a 19-0 run after the Gators' first basket.
- Corder poured in a career best 22 points on 10 of 14 shooting and added 9 rebounds. Taimane Lesa-Hardee added 13 points and seven rebounds.
- CSUSM was led by a 22-point effort by Akayla Hackson.
Muirae Gomez got the scoring started with a jumper just under two minutes into the game. After nearly three minutes of being held scoreless, the Cougars offense erupted with a 19-0 run over the next five minutes. Gomez ended the run with another jumper but San Marcos closed the quarter with nine straight points to lead 28-4.
Corder opened the second with her first basket of the game but the Cougars continued to score on the offensive end. The visitors extended their margin to as many as 33 in the closing minutes before the Gators closed the half with five points in the final 20 seconds. Lesa-Hardee knocked down a 3-pointer and Corder followed with layup just before the buzzer to make it 48-20 at the half.
San Marcos continue to extend their lead in the third, bringing their advantage to 37 at the 3:37 mark. SF State countered with a 8-2 run but Hackson's basket in the final seconds sent the game to the fourth with the Cougars leading 67-36.
The Gators outscored the Cougars 16-14 in the fourth, including a 6-1 run to open the quarter. Corder scored seven of her 22 points in the fourth but it was not enough to bring SF State back into the game.
The Gators head out on the road next week with a pair of games in Southern California, starting with Cal Poly Ponoma on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
