How it Happened

Cal Poly Pomona raced out to an 16-8 lead in the first quarter but the Gators marched right back. Corder kicked off an 8-0 run that ended with a Lesa-Hardee layup that beat the buzzer and finished the quarter tied at 16-16. The Broncos began the second quarter with a three from former Gator Lauryn Catching. Corder answered with a putback but the Gators went scoreless for nearly four and a half minutes. Still, the Broncos struggled just as much and only grew their advantage to four over the same period. The deficit grew to eight before Lesa-Hardee connected with Corder to cut the lead to six, 32-26, at the end of the half.

Out of the intermission, the Broncos pushed their lead to 10 with four quick points. Jarecxy Privado buried a three for the Gators and Gomez drew a foul and made both tries to cut the lead to five. That work was offset by four consecutive free throws for CPP and the Gators trailed by nine. Gabby Jajeh hit a three and Corder made the second of a pair of free throws to cut the lead back to five. The margin grew to double digits and the Broncos closed out the third quarter with a 14-point lead. The Gators were outscored 14-7 in the fourth quarter and were held scoreless for the final 2:18.
