POMONA, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's basketball team was unable to overcome a first-half deficit and fell 65-54 to Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday night at the Kellogg Center.
- The Gators (8-14/5-10 CCAA) have lost three straight after winning three straight and sit in 10th place. The top eight teams will advance to the CCAA Tournament.
- The fourth-place Broncos (14-5/10-4 CCAA) have a game and a half lead. The top four teams will host a first-round conference playoff on Tuesday, March 3.
- Linton Acliese III went just 3-of-10 from the field but led the Gators with his sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He ranks tied for second in the CCAA with 17.6 points per game and fourth in rebounds with 7.6 per game.
- The Gators dominated the glass. SF State outrebounded CPP 40-28, including 15 offensive rebounds that resulted in 15 second chance points.
- Kenny Macklin's 25 minutes were a career high. He reeled in seven rebounds in that time.
- BJ Standley and Phoenix Shackelford shared the team lead for the Broncos with 18 points apiece.
The Gators fell behind 12-2 in the first six minutes of play and never recovered. The Broncos grew the lead to as large as 13 and led by 11, 34-23, at the half.
SF State made a run in the second half. An Acliese layup trimmed the lead to eight and
DJ Sylvester splashed a three that cut the lead to five with 12 minutes to go.
However, the Gators went scoreless for nearly four minutes and didn't make another field goal until
Jase Wickliffe connected with Acliese with 5:31 to go. The Gators and Broncos played even the rest of the half.
