MBB | Acliese Posts Fourth Double-Double In Loss to Cal Poly Pomona

SAN FRANCISCO — Linton Acliese III racked up his fourth double-double of the season as the San Francisco State men's basketball team went dropped its fifth straight game, a 61-54 loss to visiting Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday afternoon inside the Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza.

By the Numbers

 
  • Acliese's fourth double-double came in the form of a game-high 19 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.
  • Jase Wickliffe had seven points in nine minutes but no other Gator had more than six.
  • The Gators won the rebounding battle for the third straight game, 33-28.
  • SF State entered the game shooting just 65.4 percent at the free throw line but shot 83.3 percent (10-of-12) on Saturday.
  • BJ Standley led the Broncos with 18 points. Riley Schaefer added 11 points and Phoenix Shackelford added 10 points.
  • The five-game losing streak is the longest in program history dating back to the 2011-12 season, in which the Gators suffered a six-game losing streak from January 12-21.

DJ Sylvester's three-pointer at the 19-minute mark got the scoring started but the Broncos responded with a 14-0 run and the Gators never recovered. CPP pushed its lead to as large as 17 at the seven-minute mark and the Gators limped into halftime trailing 32-17.

SF State regrouped and punched back with a 12-1 run to begin the half, capped by three free throws from Jacob Huynh, who was fouled on a three-point attempt at the top of the key. Two minutes later, the Gators cut the lead to two thanks to back-to-back from three-pointers from Acliese and Jordan Balser. The Broncos stayed ahead thanks to a couple of layups and peppered three three-pointers to push the lead back to double digits with 11 minutes to play. The Gators cut the lead to seven with under a minute to go but it was too little, too late.
