WBB | Gators Fall on Spirit Night to HSU

SAN FRANCISCO — Muirae Gomez notched a double-double but a depleted San Francisco State women's basketball team fell 81-45 to Humboldt State on Thursday night inside the Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza.

By the Numbers

  • With mounting injuries, the Gators (1-20/1-17 CCAA) are currently down to six players. Madison Corder and Jarexcy Privado both played the full 40 minutes.
  • Gomez shared a game-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
  • Corder added 12 points and seven rebounds. Privado added nine points on three three-pointers in the loss.
  • Molly Dixon and Alexia Thrower both scored 19 points apiece for Humboldt State. Gabrielle Carbajal added a dozen points and Tyra Turner had 10 points.
  • SF State had its best free throw shooting performance of the season. The Gators shot 92.3 percent (12-of-13). The Lumberjacks were 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.
  • Humboldt State's eight turnovers were the fewest of the season by an opponent. SF State committed 25 turnovers, marking the ninth time the Gators have turned the ball over 20 or more times this season. Eighteen of those turnovers came by way of HSU steals and the Lumberjacks converted those directly into 34 points, 25 of which came on fast breaks.
  • HSU scored 54 of its 81 points in the paint. Twenty-two of the Gators' 45 points came in the paint.

How it Happened


SF State was outscored 22-6 in the first quarter and never recovered. The Gators crawled back into the game and outscored the 'jacks by two in the second quarter. The Gators cut the lead to 12 but Madeline Hatch's layup at the buzzer sent HSU into the locker room with a 37-23 lead. HSU outscored SF State 22-11 in the third quarter, and again in the fourth.
