CHICO, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team dropped its CCAA opener on Friday, an 8-4 loss at Chico State.
- SF State (6-1/0-1 CCAA) and Chico State (5-2/1-0 CCAA) both had nine hits apiece in the game.
- The Gators saw their six-game winning streak snapped while the Wildcats have now won five straight after dropping their first two games of the season.
- Jackson Kritsch went 2-for-4 with a run and a walk.
- Chico State got on the board first with a leadoff homer from JT Navarro.
- The Wildcats added on in the second with a four-run frame. Navarro drove in an unearned run with a sacrifice bunt, then Chico State added on with an RBI single and another fielder's choice.
- In the fifth, Rudy Aguilar, Jonah Gonzales, and Kritsch all singled, then Riley Cleary got the Gators going with a grand slam.
- However, the Gators couldn't get the shutdown inning in the bottom half of the inning. The Wildcats opened the frame with back-to-back singles, moved the runners over with a sac bunt, and brought them home on designated hitter Adam Munoz's double down the left field line.
- In the eighth inning, Tyler Stofiel grew the lead to four with a solo home run to left field.
- Jack Higgins (1-1) was greeted with the leadoff homer and was charged with seven of Chico State's eight runs. He did strike out seven over five innings of work but gave up eight hits.
- Austin Moberg gave SF State two perfect innings of relief and struck out a pair.
- Jack Reitsma gave up a solo home run in the eighth but retired the other three batters he faced.
- Grant Larson was chased in the fifth after the grand slam to Cleary and a hit by Trevor Rogers.
- The combination of Chico State relievers Alex Kent (1-0), Josh Verdon, Daniel Foret, and Kristian Scott allowed just two hits over four and one third shutout innings.
