CHICO, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team split a CCAA doubleheader at Chico State on Saturday. The Gators took the first game 7-2 and dropped the nightcap 1-0.
- SF State (7-2/1-2 CCAA) and Chico State (6-3/2-1 CCAA) combined for 21 hits – all singles – in game one. In fact, the only extra base hit of the day came in the sixth inning of game two when Eddie Zavala doubled.
- In game one, leadoff batter Jonah Gonzales went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI, a walk, and three stolen bases.
GAME ONE
- It was all Gators in game one. They left the bases loaded in the first but got on the board in the second on Jonah Gonzales' sac fly. Jackson Kritsch doubled the lead with a two-out single through the left side.
- SF State doubled its lead in the fourth inning. Nick Upstill and Rudy Aguilar both singled and Gonzales and Kritsch each delivered RBI singles through the right side.
- Three consecutive Wildcats singles in the bottom of the sixth cut the lead to 4-1.
- However, the Chico State bullpen failed to get a shutdown inning. Richie Rios and Upstill greeted reliever Kenton Carruthers with back-to-back singles, then Carruthers balked. Carruthers got a groundout but gave way to Brendan Henry. Thaddeus Wilson greeted Henry with an RBI single through the right side and Gonzales followed with one of his own. Kritsch added a sac fly to make it 7-1.
- The Wildcats got a run back on a throwing error in the bottom of the seventh.
- Jordyn Eglite (2-0) struck out six over five and two thirds innings. He allowed one run on four hits.
- Sebastian Selway came on for two and a third innings and gave up an unearned run.
- Nate Jenkins pitched a perfect ninth inning.
- Braeden Gowdy (0-2) gave up four runs over four innings and took the loss for the Wildcats. Chivens tossed two scoreless innings. Carruthers was charged with a run in just a third of an inning and Henry gave up a run over the final two and two thirds innings.
GAME TWO
- Chico State scored the only run of the game in the second with a two-out single up the middle that scored Adam Munoz, who led off with a walk.
- With two outs, the Gators loaded the bases in the third but a fielder's choice ended the inning.
- In the seventh, with two outs, SF State got the tying and go-ahead runs on base but pinch hitter Jason Hare was caught looking to end the game.
- Tyler Franks (0-2) gave up one run on two hits in three innings.
- Brody Eglite threw two scoreless innings and Mike Manley pitched a scoreless inning.
- Christian Stiegele (1-1) struck out five and picked up the win. Daniel Foret added an inning and two thirds for the Wildcats and Kristian Scott picked up his first save with a scoreless frame.
