CARSON, Calif. — The San Francisco State softball team was swept in Friday's CCAA doubleheader at Cal State Dominguez Hills, 6-5 and 4-3 in eight innings.
- The Gators (11-10/7-7 CCAA) are now 4-6 on the season in one-run games and 2-1 in extra-inning games.
- SF State outhit the second-place Toros(13-5/6-2 CCAA) 8-7 in game one and was outhit 11-5 in the nightcap.
- Katie Rohrer went 3-for-7 with a home run.
- Michelle Castro went 3-for-7 with a run, an RBI, and a walk.
- Samantha Luckie went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair.
GAME ONE
- The Gators staked an early lead thanks to Michelle Castro's RBI double down the left field line. That scored Brylynn Vallejos, who drew a leadoff walk, all the way from first.
- Chenoa Au answered for the Toros in the bottom of the first with a solo homer.
- In the fourth inning, Maddy Ybarra singled and a throwing error on the play allowed Jade Loe to score. Ybarra later scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-1.
- Au opened up the game in the fifth with her second homer of the day, a three-run shot to right center.
- The Gators kept it close and got a couple of runs back in the sixth. Katelyn Sturm singled and a throwing error allowed Michelle Castro to score. Sturm later scored on a throw to second, and Luckie's two-out, pinch-hit double scored a pair to pull the Gators to within a run. She was stranded at second and the Gators went quietly in order in the seventh.
- Natalie Minteer (7-6) took the loss in a complete-game effort. She struck out four and gave up six runs, five earned, on seven hits.
- Ashley Wies (3-2) allowed three runs on six hits. Alyssa Olague earned her fourth save with two and two thirds innings.
GAME TWO
- The Toros went up 2-0 in the fourth thanks to another home run, this time off the bat of catcher Dafne Bravo.
- SF State tied the game in the seventh. Lehua DeLeon plated Sturm with a fielder's choice and an errant throw allowed Samantha Alvarez to tie the game.
- Rohrer launced a two-out blast to center in the eighth that put the Gators in front.
- However, the late lead didn't hold. CSUDH tallied four singles in the inning. Bravo singled up the middle to tie the game and Alex Davis singled to left to end it.
- Mitchell (4-3) worked out of trouble throughout the afternoon for the win. In four innings of work, she struck out three but allowed four hits and walked eight.
- Olague (9-3) pitched an inning and a third. She blew the save but picked up the win. Wies tossed five and a third innings and came away with a no-decision.
