LA JOLLA, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team dropped both games of Saturday's CCAA doubleheader at #2/3 UC San Diego. The Gators gave up three late runs in a 10-7 loss and fell 1-0 in seven innings.
- Both teams had 12 hits and three errors in game one.
- The Gators mustered just one hit in game two.
- Richie Rios went 3-for-7 with a homer and two runs on the day.
- Jackson Kritsch went 2-for-8 with a run on the day. He is hitting a team-best .418, which is third best among CCAA batters.
GAME ONE
- UCSD took an early lead with a three-run bottom of the first but the Gators answered in the top of the second. Richie Rios led off with a home run. With one out, Marco Salvetti, Mitch Sancier, and Rudy Aguilar, and Jonah Gonzales all singled. An error helped a run score on Aguilar's hit and Aguilar scored on Gonazales' base hit. Gonzales stole second and scored on a Nick Upstill single that made it a 5-3 Gators advantage.
- Shay Whitcomb trimmed the lead to one with an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second.
- A UCSD error in the third led to another run for the Golden Gators.
- Anthony Luchetti's homer in the fifth inning once again put the Tritons ahead, 7-6.
- Jason Hare tied the game in the seventh with a groundout to short that plated Kritsch.
- Brandon Stewart laid down a squeeze bunt that scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning. A rare error by Hare allowed two more runs to score.
- Kritsch singled in the ninth but the Gators hit into a game-ending double play.
- Jordyn Eglite left with a no-decision. He surrendered seven runs on eight hits over four innings.
- Luis Salinas pitched three scoreless innings and Nate Jenkins (2-3) took the loss, allowing the Tritons' three late runs.
- UCSD used four pitchers. Michael Mitchell (2-0) earned the win thanks to one and a third scoreless innings. Mark Quinby earned his first career save.
GAME TWO
- Leadoff batter Whitcomb hit three home runs off of three different Gators pitchers and accounted for five of UCSD's runs.
- Stewart drove home a run in the sixth and scored on one of Whitcomb's homers.
- With one out in the second, the Gators left the bases loaded. After loading the bases, the Gators saw their final 17 batters go down in order.
- Brandon Weed (3-0) struck out five and tossed a one-hitter in the seven-inning affair.
- Tyler Franks (0-2) and two relievers, Austin Moberg and Ryan Nabas, combined for seven strikeouts but gave up six runs on seven hits.
