SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team cruised to a 7-1 victory over Simpson in the team's home opener on Friday afternoon at Maloney Field.

- SF State pitchers racked up 15 strikeouts and issued just one walk.
- Simpson (3-6) got on the board first thanks when an error led to a sacrifice fly.
- The Gators answered quickly in the bottom of the first with Trevor Rogers' RBI single that brought home Jonah Gonzales.
- In the second, it was a trio of new Gators who put SF State ahead for good. Richie Rios and Nicholas Upstill both singled and Rudy Aguilar scored them both with a double to left.
- Jackson Kritsch's two-run homer in the fourth cleared the SF State Baseball sign in left center field and extended the lead to 5-1.
- In the seventh, Jason Hare scored on a Rios infield single.
- In the eight, Gonzales and Kritsch drew back-to-back walks. Kritsch drew a throw from the catcher and was caught in a rundown, which allowed Gonzales to score from third.
- Jack Higgins (1-0) mowed down a career-high 10 batters in six innings of three-hit ball.
- Sebastian Selway struck out three over a pair of perfect innings.
- Brody Eglite struck out a pair in a perfect ninth inning.
- Gabriel Rojas (0-1) gave up five runs in three and a third innings of work and took the loss for Simpson. Four relievers went the rest of the way and combined for the other two runs.
The four-game series continues with an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday, February 8 and concludes on Sunday, February 9 at noon.
