Athletics Hall of Famer Ed Larios '67 Named CCA Assistant Coach of the Year

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco State Athletics Hall of Famer Ed Larios '67 has been named the 2019-20 California Coaches Association (CCA) Assistant Coach of the Year.

The former tight end was inducted into the SF State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992 and sits on the board of the SF State Gridiron Club, which he also a member of. He is also a 2016 inductee of the Burlingame High School Athletics Hall of Fame, which he helped establish in 1994. At Burlingame, he won two PAL Football Championships and was named PAL Coach of the Year and San Mateo Times All-County Football Coach of the Year, as well eight PAL Girls Basketball Frosh Soph Championships and a pair of PAL Boys Varsity Golf Championships. He also helped establish the girls golf team.

Larios, 73, has spent the last seven seasons as an assistant coach for Sacred Heart Prep's football program. After lettering in football at SF State, Larios played one season in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons. He landed his first football coaching job in 1969 as an assistant at his alma mater, Jefferson High School, the first of several stops over his fifty plus years coaching career. Larios was a longtime teacher for the San Mateo Union High School District and served as head coach at Oceana (1971-73) and Burlingame (1997-98), and was a head or assistant coach for several other sports: baseball, girls basketball, golf, and track & field.

Larios and his wife, Ellen, reside in Burlingame.
