CARSON, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's soccer team fought hard but fell to No. 20 Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday afternoon at Toro Stadium.
- SF State slides to 4-6-3/0-3-3 CCAA and remains in search of its first conference victory while CSUDH remains undefeated in conference play and improves to 8-1-1/6-0 CCAA.
- Cal State Dominguez Hills held a 14-13 shot advantage but the Gators placed more shots on frame, 7-4.
- The Gators also held a 4-2 corner kick advantage.
The Toros took advantage of a corner kick in the 14th minute when Danny Hernandez flicked a header played from the right side past the left post for the early lead. The Gators nearly answered on the next trip down. SF State drew a foul near the top of the box but
Gustavo Ferrari's free kick sailed wide. Ferrari led all players with six shots, three on goal. The Gators played the final nine minutes a man down after
Julio Gonzalez Ponce picked up his second yellow card of the match.
Matias Herrera Fuentes finished with three saves. The Toros used two different goalkeepers. Francisco Aguilar played the first half and made three saves while Dylan De Baldo made four saves.
"We played some of the best soccer of the season and we just didn't find the back of the net," said Head Coach Pedro Osório. "We'll keep working and prepare for these next two road games."
The Gators head back onto the road for their next two matches, October 22 at Chico State and on October 24 at Humboldt State. The match will be broadcast for free on the CCAA Network with live stats available at sfstategators.com. Updates will also be available on Twitter at @sfstate_msoc.
