SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco State volleyball defeated Chico State 3-1 to close out the weekend. After the Gators dropped the first set 26-24, they picked up set wins of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-18.
- The Gators improve to 16-3 and 9-3 in the CCAA while the Wildcats fall to 7-13 and 3-9 in the CCAA.
- With 16 wins total and 12 at home, the Gators have already matched their totals from 2019 with almost a month left to play.
- Trinity Barr and Jessica Haynie each had 16 kills and a pair of blocks.
- Trinity Yates had six blocks, setting a new season high.
- With 13 kills tonight, Drew Morris has recorded 919 kills during her career, tied for ninth all-time
The Gators led by as much as four during the first set. Up 20-16, the Wildcats were able to come back and tie the set. A kill by Morris gave the Gators the 24-23 advantage, but a couple of Gator errors swung the set back into the WIldcat's favor as they finished with the set win.
SF State came into set two fired up and landed three straight kills to open the set. Leading 13-9, the Gators used a 6-2 scoring run to extend their cushion in the set. SF State finished the set with a .389 hitting percentage.
After the Gators started the set with a 9-5 lead, Chico scored five unanswered points to claim the lead. The two teams would trade leads once more, until the Gators took the lead for good at 14-13. Morris had a hand in all four points of a 4-0 scoring run that gave the Gators a 20-14 lead.
Tied at 17-17, momentum shifted the way of the Gators when Haynie landed a kill and Bekah Roth landed back-to-back service aces. The Wildcats landed one more point before the Gators scored five unaswered points with the final three coming from blocks.
San Francisco State hosts Sonoma State on Friday, October 29. The match will also be the Gator's dig pink match.
