VB | Big Game from Issak Helps Gators Advance to CCAA Semifinals

SAN BERNARDINO – Behind a career high 20 kills from Izzy Issak, the San Francisco State volleyball team took down Cal State San Marcos 3-1 to advance to the CCAA semifinal round at Coussoulis Arena. The Gators won the first set 25-20 and dropped set two 25-21. They rebounded in the next two sets and won 25-19 and 25-18.

  • The Gators won a CCAA tournament match for the first time ever. The first CCAA tournament was in 2015.
  • SF State improve to 22-4 and ties a program record for most wins in a season. Cal State San Marcos falls to 12-13.
  • Jessica Haynie was second on the team with 15 kills, followed by Trinity Barr with 13. Cal State San Marco's Kassy Doering had 18.
  • Kimberly DeBoer had a match high five service aces. The Gators had nine service aces compared to Cal State San Marco's two.
  • Brianna DeBoer finished with 24 digs. Her 443 season digs ranks sixth in a season.

Set One

After a slow start that saw the Gators trail 9-2, SF State called a time out. Izzy Issak landed a kill to bring the Gators within one and a bad set by the Cougars tied the set coming out of a timeout. Jessica Haynie landed back-to-back kills and Issak had another kill to take an 18-15 lead and force the Cougars to use their second timeout. The Gators would not trail the rest of the way.

Set Two

Sensing some momentum from the Cougars with an 8-4 lead, SF State called a timeout. The Gators came within one at 12-11 but the Cougars outscored the Gators 7-1 to take a sizable lead they would not relinquish to close out the set. The Gators had three service errors and four attack errors in the set.

Set Three

Down 9-6, the Gators came out of a timeout and went on a 5-0 scoring run. The Cougars would tie the match again at 12-12 only for them to fall behind again after three Gator points. The Gators would lead by as much as six points as a Haynie kill closed out the set.

Set Four

Trailing much of the fourth set, the Gators tied things up at 18 all. Coming out of a Cougar timeout, the Gators landed seven straight points to shut CSUSM down including four service aces from Kimberly DeBoer.
