SAN BERNARDINO – The San Francisco State volleyball team's CCAA tournament run came to a close when they fell to Cal Poly Pomona 3-0 in the semifinal match Coussoulis Arena. Fighting hard in all three sets, the Gators dropped the sets 25-17, 25-21 and 25-20.
Despite the loss in the CCAA tournament, the Gators had a remarkable 2021 season. Their 22 wins matches a program record and the Gators were able to stay undefeated at home for one of the only times in school history.
- SF State falls to 22-5 on the season while Cal Poly Pomona improves to 23-3.
- Izzy Issak led the Gators for a second night in a row with 13 kills. Jessica Haynie had 10.
- The Broncos dominated the front of the net and had eight blocks compared to the Gator's one.
- The Gators hit at .182 compared to the Bronco's .313
- Brianna DeBoer had a pair of service aces.
The two teams exchanged leads throughout the first half of the set. After a kill from Izzy Issak brought the Gators within one at 17-16, Cal Poly Pomona responded with seven straight points to reach match point. The Gators caught a break with a service error to give them the serve but the Broncos landed a kill on the ensuing rally.
Down 22-13, the Gators looked to mount a comeback in the second set. Trinity Barr was responsible for three kills and a block during an 8-1 scoring run to bring the Gators within two. Cal Poly Pomona landed a kills to get to set point and a block off Haynie's attack sealed the win.
The Broncos took a 7-1 lead to open the set and never looked back. Like the previous set, the Gators looked to make a comeback and continue their CCAA tournament title run. Haynie land two kills to help cut the lead at 23-19. But the Broncos were able to land two more kills to give them the set win.
