AZUSA, Calif. — The San Francisco State women's soccer team returned to the pitch for the first time in 663 days but fell 4-0 to host Azusa Pacific on Thursday afternoon.
- The Gators (0-1) got off to a slow start and were outshot 10-0 and trailed 1-0 at the half. SF State improved in the second half and was outshot 7-5.
- Four different Gators registered a shot, led by Katelyn Patterson with two, both of which were on frame.
- The Gators used 20 players in the contest while Azusa Pacific used its late lead to get a look at 26 players.
The Cougars (1-0) scored in the eighth minute. Ella Romero and Katie Prado assisted on the shot by All-PacWest forward Randi Macadangdang. APU build a comfortable lead shortly into the second half. Amy Bishop assisted Kylie Carwitz in the 51st minute and and three minutes later Ruby Fernandez scored unassisted to make it 3-0. Riley Bradbury fed Jaci Maze in the 87th minute to put things out of reach for good.
Marcella Salyer got the start for the Gators and allowed three goals. Iliana Gallegos tended net for the final six minutes and allowed one goal. Bella Hara earned the win for the Cougars in 58 minutes of action and didn't need to make a save. Maddie Williams preserved the shutout with three saves in half an hour of work.
