SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The San Francisco State women's soccer team held Dominican scoreless on its home turf in a 1-0 victory on Wednesday at Kennelly Field. The Gators were powered by strong performances from its freshman class at both ends of the field.
- The Gators improve to 2-4 and have now won two of their last three. Dominican, playing its first contest since September 9, falls to 0-2-2.
- Freshman Uki Fujiwara recorded her first career goal while fellow freshman Nicki Friedman made her first career assist.
- The Gators outshot the Penguins 11-7 and had a 7-1 corner kick advantage.
Friedman played a ball from the midfield ahead to Fujiwara, who took the pass at the top of the box off of one hop and chipped it past a charging goalkeeper for the score.
Goalkeeper Marcella Salyer went the full 90 and notched her first career shutout and win. She made five saves and is sporting a 1.10 goals against average and .810 save percentage. Jaqueline Catano made six saves in the loss for Dominican.
"It was great to pick up a win on the road," said Head Coach John DeMartini. "Things are starting to come together for us. This team has a lot of heart and character."
The Gators head to Sonoma State on Saturday, September 25 for the second game of a non-conference men's and women's doubleheader.
