SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State men's soccer team gave up an early goal and a late goal in a 2-1 non-conference loss to Dominican on Monday at Cox Stadium.
- SF State falls to 4-3 while Dominican remains undefeated at 5-0-1.
- The Gators outshot the Penguins 12-8 and but Dominican held a slight 10-9 corner kick advantage.
- Gustavo Ferrari scored his seventh goal of the season and has recorded a point in all but one match this season.
- The match was chippy throughout. While only 13 total fouls were called, the two teams combined for six yellow cards. SF State's Markus Just, Danny Estrada, and Manuell Kariuki picked up the first three. Dominican Head Coach David Frank was also shown a yellow card, and Cameron Bacca was sent off after receiving a pair of yellows in the final minute.
Dominican got on the scoreboard first thanks to a costly foul on the Gators. Just 1:23 into play, Roberto Garcia lined up the free kick and buried it for the early Dominican lead. The Gators answered in the 15th minute when Denis Vezina took advantage of sloppy play from the Penguins and intercepted a pass in the goal box, then dished to Ferrari for the finish.

Matias Herrera Fuentes was caught off-guard. Roberto Garcia made the assist to Diego Grande, who finished to the far post. The Gators nearly tied the match with five seconds remaining but
Santiago Sarmiento's shot was fended off by Dominican goalkeeper Ruben Raygoza.
Herrera Fuentes made three saves for the Gators in the loss. Raygoza also made three saves and picked up the win.
SF State delves into CCAA play on Friday, October 1 with a 3 p.m. match versus Cal State LA. Fans are permitted but are required to wear CDC-approved face coverings while in Athletics facilities and while indoors on the SF State campus.
