SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco State women's basketball team closed out its home series with a 69-54 win over Stanislaus State at Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza. Muirae Gomez had a big game to lift the Gators over the Warriors with a season-high 19 points and career-high 16 rebounds.
- Gators improve to 6-9 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA. Stanislaus State falls to 11-2 and 6-2 in the CCAA.
- Gomez recorded her fourth double-double of the season and second in a row. She also matched career highs in steals (three) and assists (three) playing in all but two minutes of the game.
- Ashley Hart also finished in double-digit scoring with 16 points.
- Alexsandra Alvarado matched her season-high five assists.
- Kali Myers matched her career-high with nine points.
- Samaria Velazquez had a career-high four steals.
- As a team, the Gators had season highs in blocks (four) and assists (16).
- The Gators had the advantage on rebounds (42 to 30) and steals (13 to 9)
- Taylor Pilot had 19 points for the Warriors.
The Warriors held the advantage on the scoreboard most of the first quarter. Back-to-back layups from Myers led to a tie game, then a lead for the Gators with 1:01 left in the first quarter. Jolene Armendariz's layup in the final seconds gave the Gators a 18-14 lead. The Gators held the Warriors to nine points on 25.0 percent shooting in the second quarter and extending their lead to eight points at the end of the quarter.
Stanislaus State came within a possession several times throughout the third quarter but the Gators never relinquished the lead. Consecutive baskets from Hart gave the Gators a 58-48 lead with 5:10 to go. Pilot and Joia Armstrong fouled out for the Warriors and the Gators were able to take career of business at the line to preserve the lead and win the game.
"Together everyone achieves more," said Head Coach Natasha Smith. "That's what we preached this week and the girls came and looked like a team that shares the same DNA...battled together stayed together and stayed focused for 40 minutes."
