POMONA, Calif. – The San Francisco State women's basketball team fell to Cal Poly Pomona 64-52 at Kellogg Arena in their first game back in almost a month. Turnovers proved to be costly for the Gators as they finished with 22. Cal Poly Pomona scored 17 points off turnovers.
- Jolene Armendariz (17 pts, 14rbs) and Muirae Gomez (10 pts, 10 rbs) became the first pair of Gators to record a double-double in a game since January 30, 2020, also against Cal Poly Pomona.
- Armendariz's five three-pointers matched a career high.
- Mya Blake was the only other Gator to land a three, going 2-for-5.
- Ashley Hart was one rebound shy of double figures. Hart finished with seven offensive rebounds.
- The Gators edged the Broncos in shooting at 32.1 percent compared to 31.6
- Jayda Villareal led the Broncos with 19 points.
After a sluggish start, the Gators came crawling back in the first quarter. Gomez grabbed her own missed basket and put the ball back in to cut the deficit to 9-8 with 4:49 left in the quarter. A pair of made free throw from the Broncos gave them a 13-9 lead at the end of the quarter.
The Gators finally grabbed their first lead of the game when Hart grabbed an offensive board and passed it to Gomez to make it a 24-23 game with less than a minute to go in the second quarter. The lead was short lived as Jayda Villareal banked a three to give the Broncos the lead going into halftime.
Villareal's three at the end of the third quarter sparked a 12-2 run for the Broncos to take a 51-38 lead with 6:07 left in the game. Armendariz scored three baskets from beyond the arch to the Gators in the game but SF State was unable to make a comeback.
