POMONA, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's team fell 4-0 at No. 14 Cal Poly Pomona on Friday evening at Kellogg Stadium.
- The Gators are currently in their toughest stretch of the schedule, having faced two nationally-ranked opponents in their last two matches, and another on Sunday. The Gators slip to 3-6-4 overall and have lost four straight. The Gators are now 1-4-2 in CCAA action and slip into a tie for last place. The Broncos improve to 9-1-4 overall and 4-0-3 in CCAA action, good for second place with 15 points.
- The Broncos outshot the Gators 23-2, including 6-0 on goal.
- Gustavo Ferrari and Johnny Kuwano attempted the Gators' two shots.
- The Broncos held an 8-2 corner kick advantage.
- Each team registered three fouls but there were six cards issued, five that went against the Gators.
Paul Roger Henschke powered the Broncos offensive. The Gators kept the Broncos off the board for the first 41 mintues but Henschke's goal in the 42nd minute send Cal Poly Pomona into halftime with a 1-0 lead. The forward from Germany broke through the Gators back line in the 69th minute. With the Gators already down 2-0, goalkeeper Matias Herrera Fuentes attempted to prevent a scoring opportunity outside the top of the box and fouled Mads Frederiksen, resulting in a red card. That set up a free kick for Max Laguna. Cooper Matthies, who had just subbed in with no time to warm up, made contact in air while attempting to stop the kick and was issued a yellow card. That set up a Broncos penalty kick and Henschke converted for a hat trick. Cris Prieto added a fourth goal in the 89th minute.
Herrera Fuentes (2-6-3) made a pair of saves and also allowed two goals. His red card in the 70th minute means that he'll have to sit out of Sunday's match. the Broncos also scored twice on Matthies. The Broncos' CJ Walker (8-0-2) did not face a shot and was credited with the shutout, his seventh of the season.
