ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The San Francisco State men's basketball team wrapped up its participation in the Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic presented by Cambria Hotel Sonoma Wine Country with a 71-67 victory over Fresno Pacific.
- SF State wraps up non-conference action with a 4-2 record while the Sunbirds slip to 2-4 on the season.
- Toby Okwuokei scored a team-high 15 points and is now tied with Jonah Roth, who scored a dozen points, for the team lead in scoring at 13.8 points per game. Alex Gilat scored 13 points and Jalen Flanagan and also added a dozen points. Eche Okeke made it five Gators in double digits with 11 points.
- Darrin Person led FPU with 17 points. Nate Kendricks added 16 points in the loss.
- The Gators overcame a night in which they shot 38.1 percent (24-of-63) but allowed their opponent to shoot 49 percent (24-of-49). SF State was also outrebounded 36-33.
- The difference came at the free throw line, where the Gators shot 83.3 percent (20-of-24). FPU shot just 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the line.
The Gators started hot and jumped out to a 10-0 lead but the Sunbirds steadily chipped away and eventually tied the game at 19-19 with 8:32 to go in the first half. Gilat kept the Gators in front with a three-pointer, then both teams went scoreless for nearly three minutes until the Sunbirds took a three-point lead when Martin Maide and Kyle Monk hit back-to-back threes. The Gators chipped the lead down to one, 31-30, at halftime thanks to a jumper from Okeke.
Okeke started the second half with an and-one that put SF State back up two. The Gators led until the four-minute mark when Kendricks knotted the game at 63-63 with another Sunbirds three-pointer. Tied at 65-65,
Caleb Oden scored in the paint with 1:22 to go. The Gators only allowed a pair of Sunbirds free throws over the final minute and made four themselves to ice the win.
The Gators return home for Purple Out on Thursday, December 1 when they open CCAA action versus Cal State San Bernardino. The first 500 fans that night will receive a purple SF State T-shirt.
