How it Happened

A pair of three's gave the Gators an early lead to start the first quarter. SF State's shooting was off during the first as they shot several air balls to go 4-for-16 from the field. Baskets on consecutive possessions by the Golden Eagles in the final minute of the quarter gave them the lead back at 15-12.

A 9-2 run gave the Golden Eagles their biggest lead of the game at 29-18 with 2:30 remaining in the second. LA only turned over the ball once in the second, compared to the Gators' four turnovers. The Gators struggled to get scoring contributions outside of Gomez who scored eight of the Gators' 12 points

Opportunities at the line kept the Gators in the game during the third. SF State went 11-for-14 during that frame and trailed 55-46 at the end of the quarter. A 13-3 run by the Golden Eagles extended their lead to 19 points with 5:49 left to play. The Gators were able to lock down on defense after that but could not come back from the deficit.
