PUEBLO, Colorado — The San Francisco State baseball team won both ends of a double-header with CSU Pueblo Saturday afternoon at Rawlings Field. The offense exploded in the first game for a 24-1 victory. In the second game, AJ Schrader's home run tied the game up late and a clutch hit by Jo Bynum brought in the winning run in a 4-3 victory.
- SF State improves to 5-2 while CSU Pueblo falls to 4-7.
- The Gators 24 runs were the most scored in a game since at least 2006.
- Richie Rios' hit two home runs in game one, making him the first Gator to hit multiple homers in a game this season. This was also his first multi home run game in his career.
- Outside of Rios, Ethan Remmers, Matthew Farren and AJ Schrader all hit home runs.
- The Gators drew 10 walks and eight hit by pitches between the two games.
- Bynum went 4-for-9 between the two games and had six RBIs
Bynum's single down the left side in the first inning drove two runners in.
Sammy Gonzales' sac fly in the following inning put the Gators up 3-0. In the fourth through seventh innings, the Gators put up crooked numbers, scoring a combined 21 runs between the four innings. Highlights included Rio's hitting a pair of home runs and Remmer's first career home run.
The Thunderwolves jumped out to an early lead and scored three runs in the second inning. Grosjean rebounded and did not give up a run the rest of his time on the mound. Farren cut into the lead with a solo home run in the top of the third. Schrader's two-run homer tied things up in the sixth inning. The Gators had a chance to end the game in seven innings with bases loaded and one out in the top of the seventh but were unable to capitalize.
Justin Clark drew a walk to open the eighth and advanced when Rios put the ball in play. Bynum drilled the ball down the right line to bring the winning run home. Reitsma took care of business in the bottom of the inning to give the Gators the win.
- Tyler Franks started on the mound in game one and went five innings for his first win of the season. He threw two strikes, gave up six hits and only one run in his outing.
- Ryan Nabas saw his first action of the season in game one. He threw two scoreless innings and had a pair of strikeouts.
- Zach Pratt was charged with the loss in game one.
- Gary Grosjean started the second game and threw eight strikeouts for the second time in a row. He pitched five innings and gave up seven hits and three runs in a no decision.
- Jack Reitsma and Mike Manley threw three scoreless innings between the two and each had a pair of strikeouts. Reitsma earned the win.
"Two tremendous wins. Pitching was solid all day. The hitters stayed with it in game two. AJ had the big home run to tie it and Bynum came through with a huge two-strike two-out rbi hit to win it. I'm very proud of how they bounced back today with two good wins after a tough loss yesterday," said Head Coach Tony Schifano.
