How it Happened

The Gators started slow, but started to pick up steam midway through the first quarter. SF State shot 52.9 percent from the field as seven first quarter points from Lesa-Hardee and Alvarado put the Gators up 25-14. The offense was stagnant in the second quarter but a buzzer beater three from Lesa-Hardee provided some positive momentum going into the second half. The Gators open up the third quarter with back-to-back baskets to go up 37-29. From there on, the Gators would hold a minimum of an eight-point lead. A good Gator defense helped keep the lead as SF State helped force 10 turnovers and made four blocks in the second half.

Quotable

"Our team believed every word of our pregame message," stated Head Coach Natasha Smith. "We've had the toughest season this year. With everyone playing each other twice, it's hard for the common person to see why or how, but considering that during the second round of season our opponents were typically preparing for just us; it's been a grind. So we received each teams best effort as we prepared to play two opponents each weekend. We're a good young team and we showed that today as everyone came together as one. Taimane Lesa-Hardee played like an all-conference player. Ashley player like a senior and Mya Blake and Alex Alvarado played like true point guards. Proud."
