SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco State women's basketball team fell short of coming back from a 12-point deficit and lost to Sonoma State 63-60 at home.
- Gators fall to 6-12 overall and 4-10 in the CCAA. Sonoma State improves to 7-11 and 6-6 in the CCAA.
- Alexsandra Alvarado led the Gators with 17 points, followed by Ashley Hart with 16. Hart also had three blocks.
- The Gators had an edge on rebounds with 38 to the Seawolves' 33.
- Sonoma State was a perfect 25-of-25 from the free throw line.
- Aaryn Picket led the Seawolves with 15 points.
Sonoma took advantage of trips to the free throw line early on and shot all seven of its baskets from the charity strip to take a 20-12 lead in the first quarter. A 6-0 run highlighted by a three-pointer from Jolene Armendariz brought the Gators within one possession in the second quarter but the Seawolves pulled away to go into halftime up 32-26. After neither scored for the first four and a half minutes of the third quarter, the Gators sent Chasity Spady to the line and she sank two. Sonoma led by as much as twelve before the Gators brought the lead back to single digits. A three from Hart brought the Gators within one point with 2:18 left on the clock. Down 61-58 with nine seconds left, Mya Blake went for the game-tying jumper. Blake stepped into the arch and the basket was called a two.
SF State will host Cal Poly Humbolst on February 5. Tipoff is slated for 1 p.m. Games are currently closed to the general public. To learn more, click here.
