CHICO — The San Francisco State baseball team dropped a pair of games at Chico State Saturday afternoon. Game one they fell 11-5 while game two was dropped 10-5.
- SF State falls to to 7-11 and 2-8 in the CCAA while Chico State improves to 14-4 and 7-2 in the CCAA.
- Daniel Santos started both games of the series and went 6-for-9 including 4-for-5 in game two. He hit a total of three doubles on the day.
- Go Hattori earned his first career start in game two.
- The Gators had four errors on the day and threw six wild pitches.
The Gators practiced patience at the plate and placed three runners on base in the top of third with walks.
Nick Upstill drilled a hit to right field to plate two runners. The Wildcats cut into the Gators lead when a throwing error allowed a runner to come home in the bottom of the inning.
Kyler Crone hit a triple to add two more runners and
Sammy Gonzales brought him in with a single to go up 5-1 in the four. Chico State registered five hits and scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to make it a one run game again. The Wildcats scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth and the Gators struggled to get enough offense going in the next four innings.
The Wildcats struck first, scoring five runs in the first two innings. The Gators finally got on the board when Upstill doubled in the third innings to bring in a pair of runners. They would get their third run of the day when
Kody Gardner hit a Sac Fly to bring Santos home and cut the Wildcats lead to 7-3. Trailing 10-3 in the final inning, the Gators drew a pair of walks to start the inning and Santos hit an RBI. Upstill's ground out advanced runners and the Gators scored again on a wild pitch.
Richie Rios took a two out walk but
Jo Bynum grounded out in his next at bat.
- Nathan Shinn started the game in game one and threw two scoreless innings with three strikeouts, no hits and just one walk. He has now pitched eight consecutive scoreless innings in a row.
- Jordyn Eglite replaced Shinn in the third. He gave up six earned runs and was charged with the loss.
- Gary Grosjean started game two and was charged with the loss, the first of the season.
