HAYWARD — The San Francisco baseball team fell 13-2 in the series finale with Cal State East Bay, splitting the series 2-2 with its crosstown rival. The Gators were tied or within one run through the first six innings.
- SF State falls to 12-16 and 7-13 in CCAA action while Cal State East Bay improves to 12-14 and 5-11 in CCAA play.
- East Bay outhit SF State 14 to 5.
- Alec Smith, AJ Schrader and Gavin Mancha all hit doubles for the Gators.
- Richie Rios was the only Gator to record an RBI.
After
Nathan Shinn struck out his second batter of the second inning, the Pioneer runner stole third and scored thanks to a throwing error from the catcher.
Jo Bynum pinch hit in the fifth inning, put the ball in play and Mancha came home to tie the game up. The Pioneers added a run in the sixth to reclaim the lead when O'Mahoney singled with a runner in scoring position. The Gators had a chance to tie the game in the top of the seventh when Schrader hit a double and
Kyler Crone came in to pinch run. Crone advanced on a sac bunt but got out trying to steal home. The Pioneers took advantage of the Gator bullpen once Shinn was out of the game in the bottom of the seventh and put up five runs in the seventh and six in the eighth.
- Nathan Shinn pitched six innings and drew the loss. He threw four strikeouts, gave up five hits, one walk and one earned run.
- Five Gator pitchers came out of the bullpen.
- Blake Campbell earned the win in relief.
