SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team fell to Sonoma State 5-2 at Mahoney Field in its series opener. The Gators struggled to get runners in scoring position and the pitching staff gave up seven walks on the day.
- SF State falls to 12-17 and 7-14 in CCAA action while Sonoma State improves to 9-17 and 6-11 in the CCAA
- Daniel Santos went 3-for-4 at the plate.
- AJ Schrader went 2-for-4 and hit a triple.
- Schrader and Santos both recorded runs for the Gators.
- The Gators drew only one walk.
Sonoma State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second thanks in part to a hit by pitch and back to back walks that led to a run.
Richie Rios grounded out to bring Schrader in and cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning. Sonoma hit a lead off single to open the fifth and Desmond Gates came all the way around the bases to extend the lead. The Seawolves added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings to take a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth.

Kody Gardner hit a two-out single to center field to advance Santos to third. Schrader drove Santos in to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Rios came up to the plate, representing the tying run. He grounded out to the pitcher, ending the Gator's comeback bid.
- Jordyn Eglite went six innings, giving up three runs, five hits, five walks and threw six strikeouts.
- Mario Vargas and Andrew Silva pitched in relief.
- Nick Roth earned the win for the Seawolves while Michael Benz was credited with the save.
