SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team showed grit and swept both ends of its double header with Sonoma State Saturday afternoon, securing at least a split in the series. Behind another great day from Gary Grosjean on the mound, the Gators won game one 4-3. In game two, Gators came back in the seventh to force extra innings and won off a wild pitch in a 5-4 victory.
- SF State improves to 14-17 and 9-14 in CCAA action while Sonoma State falls to 9-19 and 6-13 in the CCAA
- The 10 innings in the second game was the first game the Gators won in extra innings this season.
- Falcon Magaña earned his first start in game two.
- Magaña, Richie Rios and Justin Clark each had a pair of hits in game two.
Grosjean held the Seawolves scoreless through six innings while the Gators slowly added runs to the board. With bases loaded in the first,
AJ Schrader drew a hit by pitch to bring in the first run.
Alec Smith put the ball in play to bring
Daniel Santos home to increase the lead to two. In the third, Schrader took the first hit he saw and doubled down the right field line to plate
Kody Gardner.
With bases loaded again,
Luke O'Brien drew an RBI walk to increase the lead to 4-0.
Mitch Hofer came in the eighth after Grosjean gave up an unearned run. Hofer gave up a two-run homer but held on to give the Gators win one of the day.
Sonoma State opened the first by putting up three runs. O'Brien hit an RBI single to give the Gators their first run of the game and
Matthew Farren executed an excellent bunt to bring in another.
The Seawolves would take advantage of a throwing error from the Gators to add a run in the third. Down 4-2 in the seventh, the Gators recorded back-to-back singles.
Sammy Gonzales advanced the runners with a ground out, Santos brought in one with a Sac fly and Clark tied the game with an RBI single. With two outs in the 10th and Magana and
Gavin Mancha on second and third respectively, the Seawolves' pitcher threw a wild pitch and Mancha safely slid home for the walk off win.
- Gary Grosjean went seven innings with eight strikeouts, five hits, no walks and no earned runs.
- Mitch Hofer earned the save in game one.
- Tyler Franks started in game two, giving up four runs, three earned runs, six hits and threw three strikeouts.
- Jack Reistma threw three strikeouts in 1.1 innings of relief.
- Mike Manley, who threw three innings in relief, earned the win in game two.
