SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team split a double-header to Cal State San Bernardino at Maloney Field Saturday afternoon. The Gators lost 3-0 in game one but rebounded in game two 4-2.
- SF State falls to to 7-8 and 2-5 in the CCAA while CSU San Bernardino improves to 9-8 and 5-2 in the CCAA.
- The game one loss was the first shut out of the season.
- Alec Smith, who started both games in the doubleheader, finished the day 3-for-6 with a pair of RBIs in game two.
- Nick Upstill hit his third triple of the season in game one.
An RBI single from Jake Borst in the top of the first inning proved to be all the offense the Yotes would need in game one.
Nick Upstill and
AJ Schrader each hit for extra bases with two outs in the first and second innings respectively, but the Gators could not bring either of the runners home. Borst would hit another RBI in the fifth and the Yotes added an insurance run in the seventh.
The Gators offense got off to a much better start in game two as
Richie Rios, Smith and
Daniel Santos hit consecutive two-out singles with Smith and Santos driving in runners. Two innings later, Smith would record his second RBI of the day to give the Gator's a 3-0 lead. The Gators ran into some troubles in the fifth inning when a fielding error extended the inning and Yotes scored two runs. The Yotes fouled out to close the top of the fifth.
Sammy Gonzales gave the Gators an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth and
Gary Grosjean was able to pitch a complete game to maintain the lead.
- Tyler Franks started game one and was charged with the loss. He gave up two runs, two walks, six hits and threw four strikeouts.
- Jack Reitsma pitched the final 2.1 innings of game one and held runners scoreless while throwing five strikeouts.
- Gary Grosjean pitched a complete seven-inning game and threw four strikeouts without giving up an earned run.
