SB | Gators Split Series at Stan State

TURLOCK, Calif. — The San Francisco State softball team dropped a 3-2 game but bounced back 6-4 in the series finale on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Softball Field to split a four-game series against Stanislaus State.

  • SF State moves to 12-10 overall and 7-5 in CCAA action while the Warriors are now 5-12 overall and 3-9 in CCAA action.
  • The game three loss marked the first time this season that the Gators didn't steal a base and the first time since a Feb. 1, 2020 loss to Oklahoma Christian. Brylynn Vallejos had a stolen base in game two, bringing their nation-leading total to 76.
  • SF State turned three more double plays on Saturday, bringing the team's total to 14, which is the most among all of NCAA Division II.
  • Vallejos went 2-for-7 with two runs, an RBI, the stolen base, and a hit by pitch.
  • Dani Guerrera went was 2-for-6 with a run, two RBIs, and a walk.
  • Kai DeLeon went 2-for-6 with a pair of runs scored.

How They Scored
  • The Gators scored first. Vallejos was hit by a pitch and moved to third on a pair of bunts, then Jenkins came through with a sac fly to make it 1-0 early.
  • Stan State grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third. An error, followed by three consecutive singles tied the game. A bases-loaded walk with put the Warriors ahead before the Gators ended the inning with a double play.
  • Pitcher Kyndra Marzorini helped her own cause with an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Pinch hitter Cheli Navarette drew a one-out walk, moved into scoring position on a wild pitch, and scored on Marzorini's single to left center.
  • An error kept the inning alive in the top of the seventh and Guerrera pulled the Gators back to within a run but the Gators stranded the tying and go-ahead runs.

  • Kaitlyn Maddux (5-7) was the victim of another close loss. The righty struck out three in another complete-game effort. She was charged with three runs, two earned, on nine hits.
  • Marzorini (2-5) went the distance for the Warriors. She struck out four and allowed just two hits and no earned runs.

How They Scored
  • The Gators took the lead early. Vallejos led the game off with a single and scored on Sydney Jenkins' two-out single to center field.
  • A pair of walks in the second inning proved costly when Jalyssa Ledesma singled home the tying run.
  • The teams traded blows in the third. Kai DeLeon led off the top half of the inning with an infield single and scored all the way from first on Vallejos' double to right center that gave the Gators the lead back.
  • Two batters later, Guerrera recorded an RBI single, followed by Jenkins, who did the same to make it 4-1.
  • With two outs in the fourth, Lehua DeLeon shot a ball down the third base line to grow the lead back to two
  • Ledesma kept the Warriors in the mix with an RBI groundout in the sixth but the Gators added an insurance run in the seventh on Kira Nilson's chopper to the right side.

  • Holihan tossed three innings and allowed three runs. Taylor Kelly earned her first decision with four innings of one-run relief work.
  • The Warriors used three pitchers in the contest. Delaney Pamplin was charged with four runs on seven hits over three innings of work. Avery Fitch and Marzorini each allowed a run in two innings of work.
