SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw versus Cal Poly Humboldt in the two teams' CCAA opener on Friday afternoon at Cox Stadium.
- SF State moves to 2-2-3 overall and 0-0-1 in CCAA play while the Lumberjacks, who have a knack for ties under the new no-overtime format in 2022, move to 1-2-5 and 0-0-1 in CCAA action.
- The Gators outshot the Lumberjacks 10-6 and both teams placed three shots on goal.
- Both teams had three corner kicks apiece.
The Gators had a pair of close opportunities with 1:30 left in the half when Justin Wolfe slammed a shot off the left post and Kendrick Rivas fired a rebound right into the chest of Lumberjacks keeper Adrian Gallardo.
Things got chippy with 25 minutes remaining in the match, as both Manuel Kariuki and Marcus Abdel-Malek were issued red cards for getting into a shoving match. Both teams played a man down for the remainder. The Lumberjacks had a last-ditch shot that had Gators fans holding their breath but the shot went wide right as time expired.
Matias Herrera Fuentes (1-1-2) notched his second shutout of the season and notched three saves. Gallardo (1-2-5) notched three saves in goal for the Lumberjacks.
SF State wraps up the four-match homestand on Saturday, September 25 at 11:30 a.m. versus Chico State (4-2-2). The Gators will be down a pair of starters in Kariuki and Johnny Kuwano, who was issued his fifth yellow card in Friday's match.
